  1. PTA Meeting

The Microbiology Department at Jai Hind College conducted a PTA meeting in the Audio-Visual Centre on July 11, 2015. An alumnus of our college, Mr. Amit Rao, who is currently the Managing Director at MP Biomedicals Asia Pacific Pvt. Ltd, was cordially invited as the Chief Guest. The meeting was attended by a large number of students from FY, SY and TY Microbiology along with their parents. Dr. Ashok Wadia (Principal of Jai Hind College) and the Microbiology Professors presided over the gathering.
The meeting was primarily held to shed light on the scope of microbiology and to clarify any doubts or inquiries about the students’ progress in this particular field after their graduation. The seminar commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Ashok Wadia, who explained the main purpose of the PTA meeting. The Principal’s speech was followed by a talk on the scope of microbiology by our subject Professors, namely, Ms. Petra Sequeira, Ms. Madhura Ghayal, Mrs. Roonal Jain, and Ms. Renu Jaisinghania. They even gave ample information about various universities where students can pursue their Masters or Diplomas. Students and parents were informed of the various courses offered by such universities and the respective entrance exams that needed to be attempted.
Following the very informative speech given by the professors, was a talk by Mr. Amit Rao, Managing Director at MP Biomedicals. He addressed us about his own endeavors and the steps he had taken to reach his current post. His erudite speech had prompted many questions by students and parents alike, who wished to know more about the various aspects of Microbiology and the career scenarios as well. Mr. Rao answered many of their queries beyond satisfaction and clarified many misconceptions about microbiology that the audience had previously harboured.
All in all, the PTA meeting was very interactive, where both students and parents displayed keen interest in gathering as much knowledge as possible about this particular field. Furthermore, the meeting was a good platform for the professors to guide the students and reassure their parents about their future in microbiology.
The meeting ended with refreshments and discussions between the teachers and parents about the students’ academic performance.
